The
CAM offers a full range of graded examinations, starting with an
introductory Preliminary examination and then up through the grades, in
steadily increasing proficiency, from 1 to 9.
For
students wishing to take an alternative, more performance based route,
medal examinations are available, including Junior Bronze Medal,
Bronze Medal, Silver medal and finally, to complete the set, the
Academy's Gold Medal.
A
further alternative is offered in the form of Performance Certificates.
These, as the name suggests, are based purely on a recital type
performance of a programme chosen entirely by the candidate, subject to
certain criteria. Junior and Senior Performance Certificates are
currently offered.
See the individual syllabuses for more details.
There are three levels of diploma examination:
Associate
Licentiate
Fellowship
The diplomas must be taken in order, e.g. entry for the licentiate diploma can only be made once the associate diploma has been obtained. However, under certain circumstances, the fellowship diploma is available by direct entry.
The Central Academy of
Music has been conducting graded examinations throughout the UK and Ireland for
over 20 years. We aim to offer a complete, efficient and affordable, yet
at the same time, flexible examination system that meets the needs of both
teachers and candidates.
Examinations can usually be arranged at a time and place to suit you. If you have enough candidates to warrant an examiners visit, and can offer a suitable venue, simply contact the Academy and we will arrange a mutually convenient date and time for the examination session.
If you are having trouble putting together enough candidates for your own session, then simply contact the Academy and we will let you know if it is possible to tie-in your entry with another in your area.
The Academy currently publishes syllabuses for the following:
Theory
of Music (From preliminary to grade 5)
Clicking on the subject links will take you to the syllabus for that instrument. Alternatively, use the drop-down menus at the top of this page to locate the syllabus that you are interested in.
Also available using the drop down lists, are information about the general regulations for the conduct of examinations, the current price list, downloadable and printable versions of the price list and entry forms.`
